Nelson Mandela International Day is observed every year on 18 July, the birth anniversary of Nelson Mandela. It was proclaimed by the United Nations in 2009 to celebrate Mandela's lifelong commitment to peace, justice, human rights, reconciliation, democracy, and public service.
